Letters sent by Edouard Manet, 1860-1882.

Collection consists of five letters including a note to Charles Ephrussi (1882); a letter to Alfred Stevens asking to borrow a Henri II chair which he illustrates with a small sketch (n.d.); and a letter to his mother with a vivid description of a sea voyage to Madeira written in diary form, beginning with the 22nd of Dec. and concluding with an account of sighting land on the 30th. Manet describes an occurrence of phosphorescent plankton in the sea and the effect at night of the ship cutting through the ocean (1860).
